What are you leaving behind? Psalm 78: 1, 7
David is urging the people to listen to his teaching because he has things to share, lessons from their history, stories handed down to them from former generations. David wants them to hear the stories of God’s faithfulness so, that they can share them with their children so, that they will hear all about His miracles.
It’s been said, “that the well being of it’s children is the proper measure of the health of a civilization.”
I would suggest we have our work cut out for us here in Canada, children are being sexually and physically abused, overexposed to violence, and we have a serious problem with the breakdown of homes and families and that is at great cost to the children of this generation.
We have a God given responsibility to talk it up and hand down to the next generation the truth about God and His love for fallen humanity. We are instructed to share our experiences with our children so, they can in turn teach their children all about the Living Christ who loves them and died for them and now calls them to Himself. The purpose of this exercise is that the generations to come will set their hope in God and walk in His ways and not forget Him.
We must all ask ourselves the question, am I in my affairs behind closed doors and in my community, demonstrating a lifestyle of Christian love that will encourage not only my own children but also children in the church and community to set their hope in God? We have an awesome responsibility to do so! It’s been said, “your children are your message to the next generation, who will never know who you really were.”
We have a wonderful opportunity this coming week at King’s Views Vacation Bible School to touch the lives of precious children in the church and community. Under the leadership of many dedicated leaders these children are going to be taught how much Jesus loves them and they will be encouraged to put their hope and trust in Him.
I am looking forward to being part of the team as it reminds me of the years I was involved in kids clubs in Regent Park in Toronto with so many hurting families.
Will you please remember us all in prayer as we spend the next 5 days sharing God’s love with them, playing games with them and handing down the stories from the Scriptures that will encourage them to put their faith in Jesus for time and eternity.
